Narrative

Christopher Gadomski is an undergraduate student working in the Katz Lab. Researching the pathological effects of extracellular and intraneuronal tau neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs) that characterize Alzheimer's Disease, Gadomski is helping further our understanding of AD and develop novel strategies for treatment.

Gadomski’s research inspired, Tangles, an interpretation of tau neurofibrillary tangles by artist Liv Metzger. Depicting these labyrinthine entanglements, Tangles demonstrates how tau NFTs stop Lysine-specific histone demethylase 1 (LSD1) from doing its job in the nucleus, mediating neurotoxic effects (e.g. synaptic loss, genetic expression changes, increased inflammatory cascade, and cell death).
