Artist's narrative

Megan Morgan and Max Ackermann’s research sheds light on the bureaucratic system and its relationship with the state, society, and social movements. Drawing from the same ideas, the artwork titled ‘Power Struggle’ narrates the experiences of the working-class and the hardships faced by them as a result of the hierarchical nature of the bureaucratic system. The artwork explores the ways in which the working class is tied down by the system, as indicated by the ropes. They are shown holding up or supporting the higher powers. The flying pieces of paper in the background are a representation of the bureaucratic system. The hands have been rendered using color pencil in a textured way, to attach a real-world humanistic quality to them. The ropes have been rendered using HB pencils and are inspired by M.C Escher’s hyper realistic style.  The stark black background aims to draw attention to the story being told by the hands, rope, globe, and pieces of paper.
