Narrative

Inspired by the narrative provided by Jennifer Rattaray, a Biology PhD student, Prerana Kamat's artwork is an attempt by a non scientist, an architecture student, to visualize and comprehend the complexities of bacterial pathogens that can cause a variety of respiratory infections, including pneumonia, and severe systemic infections. Community is a highly magnified illustration of the complex internal structure these bacteria form as they expand on any surface or host (in the artworks case-lungs). Paper, the chosen medium for the artwork is representative of some paradoxical qualities we see in nature like strength and delicacy, fragility and durability.
