Dr. Shanmugam’s research is focused on trying to identify targetable metabolic vulnerabilities for cancer therapy. The goals of her research are to elucidate how altered cellular metabolism promotes the evasion of apoptosis and resistance to therapy in multiple myeloma, investigate how the mitochondrial electron transport chain regulates therapy sensitivity in multiple myeloma, and explore how metabolic heterogeneity promotes lung cancer cell invasion.
